Acheiving Success When We are Conditioned to Fail

As the internet grows and we become more globally connected people have begun to expect information instantly. In the past people would post a question on the internet and wait several days for a response. The lag time between looking for information and receiving the information has grown shorter and shorter as the internet has been around longer. Rather than posting a question online these days people simply search to find someone else who asked the same thing and read the answers they received.

We’ve even changed the way we shop. People shop online instead of in the stores, for food, books, travel, toys, clothes…everything. We don’t have to wait for the old 6 to 8 weeks for shipping and handling, and now expect things overnight or with in a few days.

So if we can get pretty much everything we want in an incredibly short amount of time, or with an incredibly small amount of effort, our expectations of the amount of time and effort we have to put into ANYTHING diminishes. If you are accustomed to getting things quickly and easily, why shouldn’t success be the same?

This is where people run into the major problem that causes them to fail. The principles behind success have not changed. It is still through providing and then delivering value to people that you will achieve success. And success has to be BUILT.

What happens to most people who decide to become a business owner or entrepreneur these days is they expect success to be fast and easy. If they don’t see results from an action the first couple of times they do it, they tend to give up. So in the first few days when they are starting to build their web traffic, or their business, or any kind of following, they see that they have put in a good amount of work for no payoff. After a couple days they lose the motivation to continue without seeing results and they give up. They jump onto the next thing that looks like it might work and declare the last idea a failure. But internet fortunes are simply not made by just having a website with ads on it. It’s still about building traffic through great content, about over delivering, about learning constantly so you can continue to deliver great relevant content.

People who create success start with an action plan. They know that they must constitently take small steps daily, and it will build upon itself to become the success they seek. And it’s when you start to see the results pour in that you will find it grows exponentially, but you still have to start somewhere with a little bit of faith and understanding in the process.

To get beyond the fast and easy expectations that may have been holding you back, figure out how you can build toward the success you are seeking. What is your goal? What must happen for you to get to your goal? Break it down to manageable steps and then do them every day…no more, no less. Make a plan and follow it consistently. Do it even when the results take some time to come. If you know the steps will move you toward your goal, just push forward, and once you hit the growth phase your momentum will stagger you.
