Helen Keller once said, “Your success and happiness lies in you. Resolve to keep happy, and your joy and you shall form an invincible host against difficulties.” I believe choosing to keep myself, my beliefs, and the truth relevant to each other will be the most important choice I make affecting my happiness and success. By staying true to myself, believing in myself, and standing up for what I believe in, I will know that my decisions are made based upon my thoughts and opinions, not letting others sway me.
By staying true to myself, I can overcome any obstacle that I find. I stay true to myself by always working hard in whatever I do, especially in my athletics. Whether it’s during the season or in the off-season, I do whatever it takes to stay on top of my game. I could listen to what others tell me and follow the actions of others, but if I did that, I would only succeed in reaching the goals of those I had followed. I would never reach my goals because I had been a follower and did not choose the path leading towards my own goals. Staying true to myself will also help me to believe in myself.
Believing in myself will help me have self-confidence, but I cannot start to think that I am the greatest person out there. To be successful, I need to be confident and have faith in myself. If I am over-confident, it will eventually bring me down. Generally speaking, if I have no confidence in myself, I have already let myself down and not helped myself toward success and happiness. Having confidence is a key to my athletics and my schoolwork. To perform my best, I need to keep my confidence level high enough so that it wears off on others and doesn’t seem arrogant. By believing in myself, I can begin to stand up for what I believe in.
By standing up for what I believe in, I will not be wrong in my own eyes or be unsure of myself or my actions. I could follow in what others choose to believe and follow, but if I do not agree with those choices, it would mean nothing and would not help me in any way. Standing up for what I believe in means not giving in to peer pressure and staying away from illegal substances the youth in our town is subjected to. When I stand up for my beliefs, I must realize that not everyone will agree with me, and therefore, I need to be open to and understanding of the ideas of others.
If I can keep myself, my beliefs, and the truth in order with each other, I believe that choice will be the single most important decision I could make that will lead to my success and happiness.
