Having made a wise decision to work from home or start a home business, it would be wiser to support that excellent move with some easy to implement steps that can make your home life and work blend into each other, and still achieve the desired results – success in business from home, right from the start. Being part of the home, it is extremely difficult to avoid some of the household chores, like laundry, washing, baby-sitting, neighbor’s calling and so on. But with these following simple tips you can master the art of blending both successfully.

Separate the office: A “home office” should be identified from the rest of the place, even making simple adjustments like a room partition or screen and equipping with a phone, fax machine and surely a computer. It helps to mean business to all including the family with visual clues, that work has its due importance, even without the obvious luxury of a well-furnished office space.

Use an exclusive phone line: The separate phone line for the business may be a small expense, but the image of a professional appearance to customers is worth a ton more than the situation, where you and other family members make and receive calls from the same phone. Adding an answering machine or voice mail, to take the incoming calls further enhances the standing of the business in the eyes of the clients. Also, it is prudent to spend money investing in the right tools you need, to do your job well.

Commonsense approach to work schedule: Having no boss, should not prevent one from planning a realistic work schedule and sticking to it. Keeping the work schedule as prime, will ensure observance of discipline such as business calls during the working day, and personal calls after office hours. Family and friends will get the clear message that you are true to your business, and dependable to your clients. One also needs to develop the guts to politely refuse friendly chatting or shopping for home goods and groceries during business hours.

Dress talk and act formal: Even though the home office is just within the home, a minimum of formal dress and professional look during working hours, helps to reinforce the image that you are still a professional. Business like responses on the phone, and the business attire during working hours can make a tremendous difference to the professional image of the business.

Strictly polite: If friends are really friends, even though some may intrude with an invitation to chat during working hours, or coffee drinking or shopping for an afternoon, by being polite and strict with the business during business hours, they will gradually accept your schedule, and adjust accordingly.

Flexible but effective: Having no boss, gives one the ultimate freedom to pick and choose a work schedule, that merges with his/her individual body rhythm, when one can work with the best mental agility, and when, one can pull on with the drudgery of non-productive work. One can afford to be flexible and still be able to manage the full spread of work, without having to keep the same hours as everyone else. You can tune your work schedule to produce the most optimal combination of work, looking after kids, or anything else, but also find that you can achieve faster and better results than those rigid work hours just because somebody else laid them for you.

To work from home in a home based business by following most of the above tips you can turn your life to one which is both attractive, pleasurable, productive and above all satisfying mentally, physically and financially.
