Barry eventually made up his mind that he needed to go and see his family physician about his abusive drinking. At first, Barry thought he would be able to basically go on the Internet, look for some essential alcohol abuse and alcoholism information and come to a decision whether or not he was dependent on alcohol. Not unexpectedly, he found numerous websites that cataloged some of the well-known symptoms of alcoholism. That’s the good news. The less than positive news, sadly, was that Barry displayed more than a few of these alcoholism symptoms.

Alcoholism Symptoms: Some Examples

As an illustration, Barry was drinking quite a bit more than normal and he was beginning to have more heated bickering with his girlfriend. Moreover, for the first time in his life he was suffering through sleeping issues. Besides this, Barry often felt depressed and on an ever increasing basis he had been demonstrating less than normal concentration at his job.

Does Meditation Increase Spirituality?

Meditation in and of itself is a spiritual practice. Meditating involves letting go of those distracting thoughts and quieting the mind. When you quiet your mind, you allow yourself to detach from your external environment and naturally you’ll enable yourself to connect with your inner self.

Connecting with your true inner self is a spiritual act and will increase your overall spiritual awareness. With improved spiritual awareness comes improved self awareness and there are many benefits that come from being fully aware of yourself. For instance, when you connect with yourself, your life’s purpose and goals and true inner desires become clear. It’s common for people to spend so much time searching the external world for answers, when truthfully, the answer is within each and everyone of them.

Opposite to contrary belief, meditating does NOT need to take a lot of time out your day to prove beneficial. Rather, the opposite is true. Start your meditation practice by committing to 10 minutes a day. To grow spiritually in a world defined by power, money, and influence is a Herculean task. Modern conveniences such as electronic equipments, gadgets, and tools as well as entertainment through television, magazines, and the web have predisposed us to confine our attention mostly to physical needs and wants. As a result, our concepts of self-worth and self-meaning are muddled. How can we strike a balance between the material and spiritual aspects of our lives?

To grow spiritually is to look inward.

Introspection goes beyond recalling the things that happened in a day, week, or month. You need to look closely and reflect on your thoughts, feelings, beliefs, and motivations. Periodically examining your experiences, the decisions you make, the relationships you have, and the things you engage in provide useful insights on your life goals, on the good traits you must sustain and the bad traits you have to discard. Moreover, it gives you clues on how to act, react, and conduct yourself in the midst of any situation.
